ARTIST STATEMENT

My name is Maren Legeros, and I am an artist that specializes in hand cut paper portraits. I was raised in a household with two very different cultures; my mother is Danish, and my father is Greek. The practice of hand cut paper art was first introduced to me by my mother’s family traditions, as Hans Christian Andersen would illustrate fairytales with cut paper artwork. To add to this, the themes, motifs, and inspiration of my current practice come from my father’s side, as most of my current work is based on the stories of Greek mythology. With the influence of a Danish traditional craft and themes provided by ancient Greek mythology, I seek to honor both sides of my heritage by creating art unique to my birth.

With this method, I am also selecting Minnesotan residents for my subjects - in doing so, I hope to elevate members of my community into a heightened visual form; a reminder that mythic beauty lives here.

ABOUT ME

I am a visual artist living and working in Farmington, Minnesota. I hold a degree in Fine Art from Gustavus Adolphus College. My work has been exhibited regionally at NEMAA's Art-A-Whirl, Saint Louis Park's FOTA Artist Showcase, and Saint Cloud's Essential Art exhibit. My first solo gallery show was at Cream City in Saint Cloud, where I exhibited my collection of cut paper artwork in a show called Practitioners.

When not in the studio, I enjoy baking delicious treats, reading romantacy books, hiking with my rescue dog Rhubarb, and playing video games with my better half, Nick.
